About Dutch Dairy Centre
The Dutch dairy sector holds a unique position worldwide. Since the early 20th century, Dutch cows, farmers, and cheese makers have been renowned across the globe for their professionalism and exceptional quality. The Holstein-Friesian breed, originally Dutch, is the world’s leading dairy breed in terms of milk production. Many first-, second-, and even third-generation dairy farmers around the world trace their roots back to the Netherlands. Wageningen University is internationally recognized for its academic excellence and innovative strength in agricultural sciences.
Thanks to this heritage, it is no surprise that the Dutch dairy sector is closely watched by international organizations. The Netherlands has the highest percentage of cows milked by robots, and its milk quality ranks among the best in the world.
Three of the five most widely used milking robots are manufactured in the Netherlands. Two of the largest global AI/semen companies are Dutch, as well as two of the three leading international herd-management software systems.
